I would argue that cells should be just as valuable because they tie into the metagame, and not just one specific run. That's why their buff to times doors didn't help much either: its the wrong kind of reward. Almost no set up that seeks to replace the later with the former is going to work well. That's why their buff to times doors didn't help much either: its the wrong kind of reward.Īlso, cells are a reward that improves your abilities between runs, while people go to chests expecting something to improve their current run. One or two random scrolls one way or another erases your entire upgrade tree.Īlso, cells are a reward that improves your abilities between runs, while people go to chests expecting something to improve their current run. Even with those rates, it still wouldn't be worth it. There's diminishing returns, and then there's negligible return on investment. I think the rate of growth should be more in line with the cost cells (ie, 10 for 5%, 50 for 7.5% or 10%, etc). X amount to unlock item/skill, then 10 for the first 5% increase, then 50 and so on. They're useful for unlocking new weapons and skills, but after that the the amount to upgrade grows exponetially, while the benefit stays the same. After a certain point they become nearly useless. Originally posted by Nick:It seems to me that your bigger gripe is that of the value of cells. As of right now it seems the devs just want to swarm you with flying bats as a way to "increase difficulty."Īlso I question who put those bats in there and how they survived that long, but who knows. If chests were more common then sure mimics could be a thing, but I don't think any roguelike has ever done mimic chests right if they don't drop especially rare items (Which I think they totally should after they stand up and try to eat you). When you're rewarded with enemies and cells that already have lost value instead of a cool new sword you can't help but feel cheated. It's because you literally have nothing to spend the gold on and you can speed up the grind a little bit as you play.Ĭhests on the other hand have the impression of a cool new sword or ability. There's a reason why you can spend 10k gold to gain a bunch of cells. With how unnecessary and unsatisfying the cell system is, besides the initial weapon discovery, the reward of cells is completely. Let me just add those completely useless cells to increase the gauge by 10% on a 5% damage upgrade.
